ChatGPT has just become the fastest growing app, breaking a record of 100 million monthly active users, in just over two months.
ChatGPT and its worldwide growth
The chatbot, which is owned by OpenAI, has outpaced the global growth of apps like TikTok and Instagram, Swiss banking giant UBS reports and was also reviewed by Insider.
The app that did something similar was TikTok, but it took nine months for it to reach the same level of active users. Instagram, for its part, took two and a half years, the report explains.
“In twenty years after the Internet space, we cannot recall a faster ramp-up in a consumer Internet application,” the UBS analysts wrote.
Millions of registered users in December
The number of monthly active users on ChatGPT doubled in December, when there were barely 57 million registered. In addition to this record, ChatGPT has an average of 13 million daily visits until the end of January and in December it had been six million daily unique visits.
“We cannot recall an application scaling at this rate,” the UBS analysts add. This Artificial Intelligence chatbot was launched on November 30, 2020 and since then its growth has been rapid, compared to other similar applications.
Microsoft support for OpenAI
With this app, human capacity is not necessary, since it writes letters, reports and takes tests that are the responsibility of humans. According to reports, ChatGPT generated a million users in five days.
Given the growth, Microsoft expanded support for OpenAI by investing a million-dollar amount. Currently, OpenAI has presented a $20/month plan, which they call ChatGPT Plus, where attention will be more personalized and faster.
This growth has also created problems in universities, as teachers do not know if students submit an AI-generated essay or not.
