The Little Train of Chapultepec: a long history
The history of the Little Train of Chapultepec begins in 1921 when two investors asked the government for the concession of the Chapultepec Forest Scenic Railway. This was intended to encourage visits to the park; while families were provided with a transportation service.
Thus, several years would pass until in 1929, the children’s stage train would finally take its first tour of the Chapultepec Zoo. In a very short time, the train would be one of the main attractions in Mexico City. He was so famous that in 1949, Germán Valdés tin-tan would include it in his movie The King of the Neighborhood.
In addition, the train was so popular that in the sixties the lines it would run increased and a new station was built in the Second Section of Chapultepec. A decade later, the train had 10 carriages that could accommodate 200 people per route, carrying up to a thousand passengers per day.
A break in the tour
For more than 70 years, the Little Train of Chapultepec brightened the visit of Mexican families to the forest. However, due to lack of budget, in 2006 its operations stopped.
The good news is that this year it restarted its activity. Also during the tour you will be able to listen to legends, myths and historical data narrated by Miguel Álvarez. All aboard!
