Maisons du Monde, launched some time ago the initiative “Good is beautiful” to strengthen the sustainable development within your strategy. In Maisons du Mondethey want our homes are as happy as they are responsible, as elegant as they are committed, as modern as they are sustainable. And for this reason they want to be the most valued and sustainable decoration brand in Europe with initiatives such as “Good is beautiful”.
“Good is beautiful” is a comprehensive initiative that acts as a link between Maisons du Monde’s past, present and future ambitions to create a positive impact on its entire ecosystem. This initiative is based on 5 fundamental commitments that take shape through concrete actions within the framework of each of its dimensions. At Maisons du Monde we wish join the “Good is beautiful” project all entities that identify with the values of this initiative. Thus, each one of them will be able to form part of the construction of the world of tomorrow.
According to Julie Walbaum, Executive Director, Maisons du Monde defines itself as a sustainable brand with open attitude who wants to play a positive role in society and show great ambition through concrete actions. Nathalie Rozborski, new brand and CSR director, explains that with “Good is beautiful” the firm demonstrates through actions that keeping responsible commitments can be attractive and fun in the world of home, decoration and design. Let’s see what those five commitments are that support the “Good is beautiful” initiative.
Trends with a responsible approach.
40% of responsible products by 2025: This is the goal of the brand, which currently has a 20% trending and responsible products in its offer within the “Good is beautiful” line.
Preserving the environment.
After 10 years of patronage, Maisons du Monde created the Maisons du Monde Fondation in 2015. This foundation contributes to the preservation of forests and trees in various parts of the world that need help. In parallel and in line with its reason for being, the group has been providing support for several years to associations that deal with the social economy and other charitable purposes, furnishing residences to make them more welcoming for those who need them most. Maisons du Monde has the objective of creating 100 “Good is beautiful” residences between now and 2025, in collaboration with local entities such as Emmaüs, the French Red Cross or the Fondation des Femmes, to whom we donate more than 100,000 products each year.
Human resources that promote equality.
The group adheres to a human resources policy in which each person can find their place within a strong group that promotes diversity and inclusion. At Maisons du Monde there are 50% of women among the 100 most relevant positions of the company, have signed the Diversity Charter and maintain an ambitious commitment to youth. Maisons du Monde prepares to launch internally “Good for Women” to promote equality between men and women, thus supporting the Dema1n.org mentoring program of the Article 1 association aimed at young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. With this program it is expected to offer advice to 500 young people between now and 2025.
Products with a circular life cycle.
The promise of Rémi-Pierre Lapprend, director of CSR at Maisons du Monde, is to give products a second life. Every year 20,000 products are repaired in the Maisons du Monde de Saint-Martin-de-Crau workshops. The group works with partners in favor of a social and solidarity economy to promote the reuse of products, especially through collaboration with the Emmaüs movement.
Reduce the environmental footprint.
And finally, the fifth commitment is that of reduce carbon intensity by 25% of the group between now and 2025 to develop its internal practices while reducing its environmental footprint. To achieve a powerful and lasting transition, Maisons du Monde is committed at all levels: both in terms of product design and regarding transportation (with the commitment of the FRET21 initiative) or the consumption of energy and renewable electrical power (with ISO 5001 certification).
In addition, they have created an unprecedented on-site device and communication program to encourage Maisons du Monde customers to join the ‘Good is beautiful’ initiative:
• Promotion of the group’s commitments in the 357 brand stores and on the website. • Signaling of the responsible products ‘Good is beautiful’ in store, on the website and in the Maisons du Monde catalogues. • Workshops, meetings, animations and promotion of our commitments in all our social networks.
Initiatives like this are very necessary not only today, but every day of the year, if we want to guarantee a good future for future generations that enjoy life on our planet.
