After two Grands Prix in which Ferrari has had podium options, Carlos Sainz believes that the United States will allow the Maranello team to return to their usual place in a direct fight with McLaren.
The last two races have been good for Ferrari and only the penalties brought about by the engine changes have prevented the Maranello from getting a bigger loot of points.
Carlos Sainz took the podium in Russia and Charles Leclerc was about to do so in Turkey, but in the face of the United States Grand Prix the Spanish driver does not believe that Ferrari will be so strong. “It will be very similar to Turkey, but here we should not be so competitive, it will be like going back to where we should be. We will have a tough battle with the McLarens, hopefully we can stay close to them.
A circuit of the good ones
But regardless of the outcome, Carlos Sainz especially enjoy this event, both for its atmosphere and for the circuit itself.
“It is one of my favorite GPs, I not only enjoy the race, but also being here for a few days enjoying the food and the fans. Thanks to Netflix there are more fans here. Every time we are in a restaurant or a bar they recognize you much more, since then we have a much larger fan base. I am ready for one of the best GP of the season. Austin is one of the most modern circuits ”, points out the Madrilenian.

“I think Austin is one of those modern circuits where they have not been wrong, but have been right with the shape of the corners, the balance between high and low speed, the overtaking places … I’ve been quite critical of modern Formula 1 circuits at times, but I think this is one of the good ones.. The potholes? They are part of the circuit, it depends a lot on luck and skills and there is the limit, in the gearbox and in the engine, but in general they are not a nuisance.
Not even the dreaded jet-lag it is a problem for Sainz, who claims to enjoy it “when I come to the United States. At 10 p.m. I’m already sleeping, in Europe I fall asleep at 1 a.m., and here at 9 p.m. or 10 p.m. I’m already in bed. In Europe I wake up at 07:00 am to 08:00 am and here at 06:00 am I am already awake and ready to go for a walk, go to the gym or for a coffee ”, he concludes.
Carlos Sainz has taken part in five races at Austin, scoring in all of them. His best result was sixth place in 2016 with Toro Rosso and his worst result was in 2019 with McLaren when he finished eighth.
