The hit anime series Super Champions (Captain Tsubasa) has captivated football and animation fans for decades. Now, thanks to artificial intelligence (AI), iconic characters like Oliver Atom, Steve Hyuga, and others, come to life in realistic portraits as if they were real people.
40 years ago, Yōichi Takahashi created this manga series, which became a highly successful anime. The story follows talented soccer players like Atom, Hyuga, and Tom Baker as they compete in exciting matches and make spectacular shots.
In June 2022, the YouTube channel called Passion Dimension (via Trade), composed of Japanese artists and designers who use advanced technologies, published a video showing the Supercampeones characters transformed into realistic portraits. Using artificial intelligence, they managed to give these characters a human appearance.
The impressive images
In the video, fans can see Captain Tsubasa (Oliver Atom), Armand Callahan, Yoshiko Fujisawa (Mafer), and Benji Price in surprisingly realistic detail. Passion Dimension has also applied this technology to other popular anime characters such as “Knights of the Zodiac” and “Slam Dunk.”
This innovative recreation of the Supercampeones characters has allowed fans to see their childhood heroes as if they were real people. Artificial intelligence has expanded the limits of imagination and taken the Captain Tsubasa experience to a whole new level.
There are also images of what the foreign Supercampeones players would look like in real life, such as Stefan Levin, captain of the Sweden national team, Louis Napoleon, a footballer recruited by the French U-16, and Ramón Victorino, lateral midfielder and captain of the Uruguayan team.
As technology continues to advance, it’s exciting to think about how animation characters can come to life in new ways, giving fans an even deeper connection with their animated heroes.
