It’s important pointing that the following post contains spoilers Fantastic Four comic #40. Therefore, you continue at your own risk.
As we mentioned earlier, until recently, the famous shield wielded by our beloved Steve Rogers, better known as Captain America, fulfilled the function of a defense weapon, since it could withstand all kinds of attacks and damage, as well as having the potential for attack. However, this is not all you can do, as it was confirmed to us in the recent Fantastic Four comic #40.
When Captain America’s shield is held by its other owner, which is Vance Astrovikalso known as Justice, is able to awaken the hidden power of this weapon and it can be very helpful during battle.
In essence, this hidden power is the ability to strike terror into his enemies, specifically in the race of enemies known as the Badoon. We could see this in the delivery Recent Fantastic Four comicin which Reed Richards received the power to observe everything that happens in the universe from the watchful eye.
It is here that we can see how Reeed Richards uses this new power to supervise his fellow heroes who are battling against the invasion of the race known as the Badoon. through said watchful eyediscovers that when Captain America’s shield is held by Justice, he is able to arouse unimaginable terror in the minds of the aforementioned racewhich would grant an advantage in combat.
When Reed Richards asks Steve Rogers to lend Justice the shield, what Justice was able to see through his vigilante power happens. And this has an explanation that we will see shortly. But this new power, as we mentioned, only works when Justice is holding the shieldas he is the other rightful owner of this gun made of vibranium.
Where does the terror of the Badoon come from and who is Justice?
At Fantastic Four comic #40created by Dan Slott and Rachael Stottand thanks to the power of Reed Richards, readers were able to learn about this new power that the shield hid that we’ve seen Captain America hold forever.
The terror that the shield in the hands of Justice arouses in the Badoon race is due to the fact that, as Reed Richards mentions, the alternate version of this hero, is known as Major Victoryand whose real name is Vance Astro, with his actions inflicted terror on the psyche of these enemies.
On Earth-691specifically in the year 3007, Vance Astro was part of the Guardians of the Galaxy. During a mission in which this team had to rescue the survivors left behind after the Badoon invasion, this version of Vance, known as Major Victory, finds Captain America’s shield, so he takes it and decides to use it as a symbol of hope and resistance against evil.
that’s when Major Victory engages waves of Badoon enemies using the shield., defeating them and causing them to feel deep terror just by seeing the image of Vance holding this vibranium weapon. This fear seeped deep into the psyche of the race. It is because of this that it is said that the hidden power of the shield is to awaken that fear in the Badoonunder the aforementioned condition.
And in case you were wondering why there are two different versions of this characterone known as Vance Astrovik or Justice and Vance Astro or Major Justice. This is because a mission that he carried out as an astronaut did not go as it was supposed to and he ended up stranded and asleep for about 1,000 years. When he woke up, both his life and the technology had been left behind.
Then, joining the Guardians of the Galaxy, he always wanted to help his version of the past to avoid the suffering that he went through on that space mission, so he managed to travel back in time and convince his past self not to become an astronaut. As a result of this, a different timeline was createdin which he did not travel to space on that mission.
