When he starts to eat solids, the baby wants to grab the food with his hand and put it to his mouth. You have to allow it, even if you throw it on the ground. Find out why.
Babies can eat with their own hands or with cutlery from six months. Many days you will eat with the baby on your lap. Sooner or later, the baby will try to grab something and put it in his mouth. At first, he may not eat it; it will suck it and release it again. Until one day you decide and start eating food.
You just have to offer normal food, which we eat, a little adapted: choose the? Cubes? soft, remove bones, split into suitable portions so you can grab and eat them.
Since at six months the baby does not still clamp with the fingers but grasps with the whole hand, it will probably be easier for him to take long and thin pieces. If Mom tries to feed him, he’ll probably see that the little one is trying to grab the spoon or fork. Many parents think that “it hinders with the little hand”, and they hold the hands or even wrap the baby with a towel to be able to feed it, but in reality what the child is saying is “give me the spoon, I want to take it to the mouth”.
Whether the child eats by hand or with silverware is indifferent at first, and many babies combine both. No need to worry, there will be time to teach them the rules of etiquette. The mother may have to fill the spoon or prick the pieces on the fork at first, but over time she will learn to do so.
Of course, at first, you will stain and eat very little. But you will enjoy and learn, and in a few months, you will eat only perfectly.
