He coffee It is one of the most popular drinks around the world, consumed by millions of people every day. Apart from being a stimulant that helps us stay alert, coffee has been the subject of numerous studies that explore its effects on health and well-being. One of the aspects that has generated interest is whether the coffee can influence the weight body and, if so, in what way. Recently, a study published in “The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition” showed interesting results on how the consumption of coffeewhether caffeinated or decaffeinated, is linked to changes in weight body, and to what extent the addition of sugarcream or cream substitutes can influence this effect.
This study was based on data collected from three large prospective cohorts: the Study of Nurses’ Health (1986-2010), the Study of Nurses’ Health II (1991-2015) and the Study Monitoring of Health Professionals (1991-2014). The researchers used multivariable linear regression models with robust variance estimators to evaluate the association between changes in consumption of coffee and the changes of weight at 4 year intervals. Results from the three cohorts were combined using pesos of inverse of variance.

One of the most notable findings of the study was that the increase in the consumption of coffeewhether caffeinated or decaffeinated and without sugarwas inversely associated with the increase in weight. In other words, those who increased their consumption of coffee without sugar experienced a reduction in the increase of weight over four years. The exact values were approximately -0.12 kg in each 4-year interval. This suggests that the coffee can play a beneficial role in the management of weight body, especially when consumed without sugar.
However the study also revealed that adding sugar to the coffee it had an opposite effect. Those who added a teaspoon of sugar to its coffee experienced an increase in weight of approximately +0.09 kg in the same period of time. These findings indicate that the addition of sugar to the coffee can offset the benefits of coffee for the control of weight.
On the other hand, the study found no significant association between consumption of cream or cream substitutes and changes in weight bodily. This suggests that these elements added to the coffee do not seem to influence the increase in weight to a large degree. He study also performed stratified analyses, meaning the data were examined based on participants’ age and baseline body mass index (BMI). The results suggested that the observed associations were stronger in younger people and in those with a higher baseline BMI. This could indicate that, in particular, people who have more weight who lose or who are younger may benefit more from consuming coffee without sugar in terms of management weight.
