END THE SADNESS OF INJECTIONS
The same treatment that clears your wrinkles could also improve your mood. According to a review in the Journal of Psychiatric Research , clinical tests have shown that Botox injections into the frown lines alleviated depression in about a third of patients with the disease. This may be due to something called proprioception: When Botox paralyzes nerve fibers, it can signal your nerve endings with relief from physical stress, and as a result, decreased emotional stress is possible, the researchers write.
THE MEDITERRANEAN DIET STRENGTHENS YOUR BRAIN
It doesn’t just help your heart: According to UK researchers, people who stuck to a Mediterranean diet (ethics in vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats like fish, olive oil, and walnuts) retained their brain volume for the three years that the study lasted more than the people who did not eat like this. This is important because the volume of your brain can affect cognitive functions.
CHECK YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE
According to a new Canadian study, half of people who have blood pressure tests in public places, such as shopping malls or community centers, actually have hypertension. Even more alarming: Two percent of these people had blood pressure levels high enough to qualify as a medical emergency, although most had no idea that their blood pressure was wrong to begin with.
LOSE WEIGHT TO LIGHTEN SKIN
People with psoriasis (an inflammatory skin condition that causes redness and peeling) who lost 10 percent of their body weight experienced a significant reduction in their symptoms after 16 months. Too much fat increases inflammation in your body, and researchers believe this can make psoriasis even worse.
CHECK IF YOUR DOG HAS GRAY HAIR
Too much stress could turn your dog gray before its time: Young dogs 1 to 4 years old with anxiety – with behaviors like destroying the house when left alone, or losing hair after a vet appointment or being in a new place – they were more likely to have gray hair around their snouts than their calmer counterparts, according to a new study by Applied Animal Behavior Science . If your dog is turning very young gray, it could be a sign that you should help him relax, so talk to your vet.
