New tests on the 2021 MacBook Pros show that they can be used to play demanding games.
A new test has shown that the new 2021 MacBook Pros have the ability to run some of the video games with the same power as a PC.
Performance testing with video games
It has previously been said that 2021 MacBook Pro with the M1 Max chip have the graphics capabilities of a Play Station 5. However, this cannot be taken advantage of because there is no variety of video games.
Despite this, recent tests have shown that some of the games compatible with the system and many demands on the computer can be run with excellent performance.
According to Tom Brant and a report made for PCMag a 16-core MacBook Pro M1 Pro and a 32-core MacBook Pro M1 Max would be tested with some of the most demanding games available for macOS. Also, they would be compared to a Razer Blade 15 Advanced with a Core i7 processor and GeForce RTX 3070 GPU.
The results were the following:
- When executing Hitman as the initial set of benchmarks the MacBook Pro with M1 Max managed to run the game at 106fps, the M1 Pro at 104fps and the Core i7 at 103fps.
- Second it was tested Rise of the Tomb Raider, game that counts and demands very high graphic details. The M1 Max ran the game at 116 fps per second, just over the Core i7’s 114 fps, while the M1 Pro lagged behind at 79 fps.
- Finally, the game Shadow of the Tomb Raider It put the Core i7 in first place with 101 fps. The MacBook Pro with M1 Max got 84 fps and the M1 Pro 47 fps.
Other kinds of video games were played such as simulations and strategy in which the MacBook Pros meet the good experience again. Because of this, Tom Brant said:
“From the outset, it’s clear that the new MacBook Pros are theoretically capable of enjoyable experiences even when running really strenuous games.”
It is clear that Apple computers are designed to meet demanding professional functions. Even the GPU on the M1 Max chip outperforms graphics like the Radeon Pro W6900X, but these tests have shown that maybe it is time for video games to be developed that take advantage of these capabilities.
