A few months ago, we learned the surprising news that in 2023, Activision would not release any new installments of the Call of Duty franchise, breaking a tradition of more than 20 years. We all thought that it would be the first year without new content from Activision’s star saga, but it seems that this will not be the case, since we have learned that Call of Duty will receive paid premium content in 2023.
We have learned this information thanks to the Activision financial documentswhere it is mentioned that during the coming year, the Call of Duty franchise will receive new paid premium content (It doesn’t necessarily have to be a new installment, but it could be some kind of DLC for Modern Warfare II.). This news, coupled with the rumor that Infinity Ward has plans to release new content for Modern Warfare II for a full 2 years, makes a lot more sense.
Sony claims that no game can compete with Call of Duty, regarding its acquisition by Microsoft
We’ll have to wait for much more information from Activision about this “premium content”, but everything indicates that it will be focused on Modern Warfare II, the new installment of Infinity Ward. We’ll see how this installment works, and if Activision ends up happy enough to let them continue with those rumored two years full of new content.
