One of the biggest gaming franchises in the world, Call of Duty, might be gearing up for its next big update. A new job listing from Activision hints at a possible subscription service, hinting at what the future of Call of Duty could look like.
According to the announcement posted on Activision’s jobs page, the maker of Call of Duty: Warzone is seeking a manager and influencer marketing position for Call of Duty. It mentions a “line of innovations in curated player experiences, cross-platform play, subscriptionmobile game development, and a move toward connectivity always in the community and gamers.”
Dubbed as “CoD 2.0”, fans could look forward to their own subscription service from Call of Duty for future content before the end of 2022, according to the job announcement.
However, not many details have been shared publicly about what this subscription service would look like in terms of content or pricing structure. Although some speculate that the service could be similar to the Fortnite subscription, while others hope that this will be similar to Xbox Game Pass.
But this is not the first time that news of a subscription service from Call of Duty. As early as June 2021, Call of Duty was rumored to be considering adding a 6-month/12-month Battle Pass service, with the 12-month option possibly offering a new Call of Duty title for free. If this service conforms to what is indicated in the job advertisement, time will tell.
