Something that happens in a common way in games of Call of Duty, is that many online players use cheats to raise their rank worldwide, thanks to various hacks of the programs themselves. Nevertheless, Activision is constantly trying to fight the practice, so now software is being released to combat cheaters.
That is what they have been working on for quite some time. Ricocheta software level kernel that gives problems to users who tamper with their video games, that includes Call of Duty: Vanguard and Call of Duty: Warzone. Since its launch last year, the company has seen the decline of many users, which has been overshadowed by a balance of rising fraudsters.
The backflow is because cheaters are constantly using new tools, and the Ricochet you have to figure out how to detect this behavior. One of the ban plans goes by the name of “mitigation”, this not only kicks players, but also nerfs players’ weapons.
One of the implementations makes a cheater’s shots deal almost no damage to the player they’re aiming at. The reason it does any damage is so the target gets the visual cues to get rid of them. Only this one has an advantage, since it shows no signs of using cheats that involve software.
There is also the Cover-up. Where if a cheater has been caught with this, then everyone they hit becomes invisible to them and their software, leaving them running through levels full of players they can’t see. This makes them see the bullets fly out of nowhere and therefore making their avatars fall.
The team of Ricochet will keep working to find new ways to get rid of cheaters. It’s also going to be embedded in new games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
