A few weeks ago Microsoft announced the future acquisition of ActivisionBlizzard, which will become effective in the coming months. The multimillion-dollar purchase brought with it all sorts of reactions, especially when it came to major franchises like Call of Duty and its supposed exclusivity on Xbox systems. Now Microsoft makes it clear: Call of Duty and other great Activision Blizzard sagas will continue to be multiplatform. This has been made known by the North American company in an article entitled “Adapt before regulation: an approach based on principles for app stores”.
This is the exact excerpt referring to the non-exclusivity of Call of Duty and other major franchises: “To be clear, Microsoft will continue to make Call of Duty and other popular Activision Blizzard titles available on PlayStation under the terms of any existing agreement with Activision. And we have committed to Sony to make them available on PlayStation beyond existing agreements and in the future so that Sony fans can continue to enjoy the games they love. We are also interested in taking a similar path with respect to supporting the successful platform of Nintendo. We believe this is the right way to do things for the industry, for players and for our business.”
Blizzard announces that it is working on a new game
Microsoft’s post implies that popular franchises like Call of Duty, Overwatch, Diablo or even Crash Bandicoot they will continue to be cross-platform, although it does not refer to upcoming Activision Blizzard projects, which could be exclusive to Xbox systems. This is the case of the recently announced blizzard survival gamewhich is in the early stages of its development and does not yet have an official title.
