The company Activision Blizzard, which in a few months will be part of Microsoft, has released new versions of its star game Call of Duty every year for almost two decades. However, everything indicates that he has decided to stop.
That’s right, according to what was published by Bloomberg this Wednesday, February 23, expert players and new Call of Duty adherents will have to wait an extra year to see a new update of the popular saga.
According to Jason Schreier of Bloomberg, Activision-Blizzard won’t release a new Call of Duty until 2024. Yes, we will have to wait another year to enjoy the new development of Treyarch.
The reason does not seem to be related to Microsoft’s purchase of Activision Blizzard, but to the poor performance of the latest release, Call of Duty: Vanguard.
Always according to Bloomberg, the low sales of Call of Duty: Vanguard have prompted Activision’s top marketing and launch managers to generate another strategy, different from the one they have maintained until now.
The idea would be separate new deliveries longer in order to generate more prior expectations.
In fact, one of the biggest criticisms that the game has had in all these years of success is that the deliveries did not have too many new features.
On the other hand, the very good performance of Warzone, its zero-cost battle-royale, has also surely impacted.
In 2022, it is expected to launch a sequel to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which is being developed by Infinity Ward, and a revamped version of Call of Duty: Warzone. Both with a new engine.
Call of Duty 2023?
Without a new Call of Duty in 2023, Activision Blizzard, already part of the Microsoft ecosystem, would launch a new free video game and additional content for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
According to different sources, Call of Duty: Vanguard never worked as expected. The video game based on World War II never managed to surpass Call of Duty: Black Ops-Cold War, both in sales and in the comments of its players.
Beyond this, it was also the best-selling video game in the US last year.
