The electric utility vehicle presented in the last edition of the Shanghai Motor Show already has a commercial name and is for sale in the Asian giant, The one until now known as BYD EA1 is finally known as BYD Haitun, a model that will arrive in Europe in 2022 revolutionizing its category by design and performance.
In the last edition of the Shanghai Auto Show, held last spring, the Chinese from BYD presented a new utility that will add to the offer of electric in China from autumn, with a very modern design. Then, the Chinese firm revealed only the exterior, but promising to reveal all the details shortly before its commercialization, which has already happened.
Thus, what was then known as BYD EA1, its internal development code, has become the BYD Haitun. The new Haitun will be offered in an attractive design, with severely ragged headlights at the front that merge with the closed upper grille, and with a new LED light signature that also integrates with the chrome trim of the grille.

With a wedge-shaped profile, the rear view mirrors are anchored to the door panels, the handles integrated into the panels and the wheels located at the ends, aras with the wheel arches. The roof is presented with a floating air, with a lower height in the rear volume, while continuous lights stand out at the rear. Two versions that are hardly distinguished by the design of the bumpers, completely smooth at the front and sportier by fitting small vertical gills at the ends and with retro-reflectors.

The new Haitun has been developed on a new specific platform for electric cars, known as “E-Platform 3.0”, with a spacious interior for five seats. Under the cabin it has an electric motor that offers a maximum power of 70 kW -95 CV- and a maximum torque of 180 Nm.
The system is powered by a “Blade” type battery, with net capacities of 30.72 kWh in the “short” variant and 44.92 kWh in the “long” variant, so it has maximum autonomies of 301 and 405 kilometers, according to the NEDC cycle. Top speed is limited to 150 km / h. The manufacturer has confirmed that the model will change its name to BYD Dolphin for marketing in Europe.
