Although for some it may be something common and everyday, Buying a cell phone is not an everyday thing.. In fact, the longer the device lasts, the better. However, amid the explosion of the digital age, the functionality of smartphones becomes obsolete much faster than before, resulting in a depreciation of their value.
Computer Today cites a study carried out by the firm Simple Ghar, in which a weighting is made of the cell phones that lose their value the fastest. The figures that appear in the analysis make many wonder what is more worth it: Buying a high-end 2022 version or a new mid-range?
We know that “Flagships” such as Samsung’s Galaxy S22 or Apple’s iPhone 15 are not an option for most people, due to the high price of the devices in their first quarter of sales. So, this is where other brands or mid-range devices appear that can replace the functionality that the user is looking for in the cell phone.
Perhaps an iPhone 14 or a Galaxy S22 has attractive features and a much more affordable value, compared to the price from a year ago.
The report from the aforementioned firm indicates that the Galaxy S22 costs 40% cheaper than its initial value. While the iPhone 14, also released last year, costs 24.68% less.
So, although the firm makes this calculation criticizing the functionalities of cell phones, which cause their value to depreciate, the reality is that these two “old” devices are much better than the new mid-range ones.
The OnePlus brand was the one that came out worst in the assessment of the firm’s analysis. Research finds that cell phones of this brand depreciate by 37% in just one year.
