Buffy: The Vampire Slayer is an icon of popular culture of the 90s. After the last episode aired in 2003, many thought this would be the end of this character. However, in 2018 it was revealed that a reboot was already in development. Four years after this announcement, today it has been revealed that this project has been stopped indefinitely.
Via The Hollywood Reporter TV’s Top 5 Podcast, Gail Berman, the show’s executive producer, has revealed that development on the reboot has gone on hiatus., and at the moment it is unknown when things will return to normal. Similarly, at the moment it is unknown what caused the production to stop.
It’s important to mention that since the reboot was announced, Joss Whedon, who was set to take over as executive producer on the series, has been embroiled in a series of accusations about his inappropriate and aggressive work behavior. Even Charisma Carpenter, who played Cordelia Chase, accused the director of constant threats of dismissal and “He abused his power on numerous occasions.” So this perhaps played a role in the current state of this new production.
At the time it was mentioned that this reboot will star a woman of color. Although at the moment there is no actress, Sarah Michelle Gellar, who was in charge of bringing Buffy to life in the original series, pointed out that Zendaya should have this position, something that the fans quite liked.
Speaking of the world of Hollywood, Paprika will have a live action movie. Similarly, Netflix could cancel The Sandman.
