Technology is part of the lives of millions of people. In many cases it is used for entertainment purposes but it can also go deeper to address serious issues of high concern. In that sense, the video game industry has established itself as one of the most powerful in the world and has now taken another step forward. It is the title “Book of Glory” that is about to make history because it is the first designed in our country that focuses on mental health.
Video games aren’t just for kids anymore.
The industry began formally a little over 40 years ago and at the beginning its target audience was children. Although as time has passed everything has been completely transformed. Each time it captures more people and also leaves larger profits.
Based on Statista, just During 2021, China obtained more than 46 billion dollars thanks to the sales of games, consoles and other components related to video games. In this way, it was consolidated in the first place in the world within this category.
In this sense, conventionally, the countries considered first world are the ones in charge of developing titles. Although in recent years that has changed and even our country already stands out in this industry. But now the title “Book of Glory” has been announced, created by students of the Computer Technologies career at the Tecnológico de Monterrey campus Chihuahua, with which they seek to support the mental health of people.
Andrés Acevedo, Ethan Castañón and Mari González created the company Nefarious Game Studios. It is a startup created with the aim of help people through video games and fun.
“I wanted to make a game for the purpose of mental health, but I was in the first semester and I didn’t know anything, that’s when I contacted Ethan and Mari, we had a brainstorming and we realized that we couldn’t make a game like that. scale”, says Andrés.
Video games as emotional support
The first video game developed by the students was Colors- A Colorful Adventure, a mobile game that served as practice for them. During this stage they were joined by Hassan Abbud, the team’s current lead programmer.
His second project was Book of Glory, the one that they consider the biggest to date because it is a role-playing video game for PC and console and that has as its center the issue of mental health.

The story of the game revolves around Adler, a boy who moves to a town and during his adaptation experiences adventures in two worlds. The monsters he battles are masked creatures that torment people in the parallel world, affecting their real-life counterparts.
According to what the developers explained, you have to follow that rhythm to deal damage to enemies, since each note simulates an attack. The history of the video game arose from the experiences of the team members, how they perceive life and have overcome challenges.

The students plan to release Book of Glory in 2024; however, in August 2022 they will release a free demo version along with a Kickstarter campaign.
