BMW has introduced important innovations in the range of its exclusive roadster. The new BMW Z4 2023 bursts onto the scene accompanied by a significant series of updates in terms of design and equipment. Some new features with which to underline the sporty approach of the German model.
The third generation of BMW Z4 burst onto the market in the tumultuous year of 2020. To date, more than 55,000 units have been sold worldwide, making it one of the most popular premium roadsters. The serial production process is carried out at a facility in Graz (Austria). Under the premise of giving a boost to sales and consolidating its position in Germany, the United States and China, its main markets, a major overhaul has been introduced.

Some improvements that have as protagonist both the aesthetic section and the technological equipment. Let’s go into detail and review the main changes that have occurred in the range.
Standard exterior M Sport package and new grille for the BMW Z4
BMW has expanded the standard equipment of the Z4 by including the exterior M Sport package. A package made up of three-section air intakes in the front apron and a rear apron with striking edges on both sides. The side air intakes have been reshaped to improve aerodynamic performance.
The grill feature has been updated. The kidneys now have a horizontal internal structure. And in the specific case of the BMW Z4 M40i, the sporty character has been underlined with the wing mirror caps in Cerium Gray and trapezoidal trims for the exhaust outlets.
It has also been decided to “rationalize” the structure of the offer. The Advantage, Sport Line and M Sport equipment lines no longer appear. Instead the customization options have been increased. Continuing with the novelties of the standard equipment are the 18-inch M light alloy wheels. Two-tone rims with a double-spoke design. Optionally there are M light alloy wheels in 19-inch format.
The range of colors available for the bodywork has been revised and incorporated new paint variants. In addition to the metallic colors Thundernight, Portimao Blue and Skyscraper Grey, four other variants have been included that cover a wide spectrum between white, black, red and grey. Likewise, the BMW Individual Frozen Gray metallic paint finish is included. As for the fabric hood, it is finished in black as standard. Optionally it is possible to give it an Anthracite Silver effect.
The new Z4 is a digital and connected car. Combine a digital instrument cluster with a central information display, both with a diagonal of 10.25 inches. The infotainment system allows access to numerous digital online services. The list of driving assistance systems it is equally wide. As standard, it boasts a frontal collision warning with brake intervention, lane departure warning with return to lane and the speed limit information function with an overtaking prohibition indicator.
Regarding the list of optional equipment, there are also changes. Headlights in black M Shadow Line, which can be ordered together with adaptive LED headlights, are part of that list. Other examples are the M exterior trim strips in high-gloss Shadow Line black.
The engines of the new BMW Z4 2023
Regarding the mechanical section, the new Z4 is available alongside a choice of three petrol engines. All engine variants are equipped with an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic gearbox. A transmission that includes paddle shifters on the steering wheel and the very interesting Launch Control function to optimize traction when leaving.
The access model is set by the Z4 sDrive20i It is powered by a 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder engine that develops 197 hp and 320 Nm of maximum torque. It is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds. One step above is the model Z4 sDrive30i which also uses this engine but whose power rises to 258 hp and 400 Nm of maximum torque. Complete the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds.
As for the top step of the range, it is occupied by the new Z4 M40i. Under its hood is a 3.0-litre six-cylinder M TwinPower Turbo engine with 340 hp and 500 Nm respectively. This model only needs 4.5 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h.
The improvements made by BMW in this aspect have the Z4 sDrive30i as the protagonist, since it now equips the M Sport running gear as standard. A technology that optimizes driving dynamics with its firm adjustment of shock absorbers and springs. The Z4 M40i, in addition to adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled dampers and M Sport brakes, is equipped with an M Sport differential on the rear axle.
