These days all kinds of rumors and leaks have emerged about the next Silent Hill titles, one of them being developed, according to numerous sources, by Bloober Team, creators of The Medium.
Now according to the media GamesPressureit seems that this would not have been the one historical IP in the hands of the study, since Bloober Team would have worked on an Alien game set in the middle ages. The title would have been a spiritual successor to Alien Isolation, only in this case with a totally different setting than seen in the franchise to date.
Bloober Team withdraws its games from Russia and Belarus due to the invasion of Ukraine
This title would correspond to one of the many projects financed by the European Union previously announced by the team, under the name of Black. Although this project would have changed its focus a long time ago, moving away from this interesting premise (as the team has explained to IGN), you just have to read the official synopsis of the project to see that it was very similar to the description provided by this leak:
“Presented from a first-person perspective, the game is a mix of exploration, survival, and combat. Players immerse themselves in the world by exploring the environment, interacting with characters, and taking part in story-based scenarios. As the story progresses, they shape the narrative by making a series of moral choices that will lead them to one of at least two endings. Sometimes the player engages in visceral hand-to-hand or hand-to-hand combat. Though sparse and sometimes optional, the combat is always challenging and tension building, fitting for a survival horror game. The hero is constantly outnumbered or overpowered, and can easily perish if he isn’t careful. When combat is not an option, players will be tasked with simply staying alive in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. They can do this by sneaking around, improvising, or outmaneuvering the opposition.
These segments, including the encounters with the alien enemies, will serve to increase the tension and give the game a much-needed sense of terror. Will you elude your enemies, distract them, or face them head-on?
Key Features:
• unique environment, unconventional mix of Middle Ages and exotic species
• mature story about the dark aspects of faith and humanity with the alien life form as a catalyst for character development
• Ambiguous moral choices (should we punish those who have hurt us or stand with them against a greater evil? Should we save a child at the cost of our own lives?)
• mix of stealth and intense visceral combat
• the historical setting makes the story more realistic and relatable, allows for possible spin-offs set in other historical periods (Assassin’s Creed style)”.
Bloober Team would have worked on an Alien game set in the middle ages
It is certainly a real pity that the project has ended up taking a different form. It remains to be seen if, despite this, it will continue to use the Alien IP or if it has become a completely original new franchise by Bloober Team.
