Mondelēz International informed today Tuesday that, after the consent of the regulatory authorities, completed the purchase of Productos Ricolino, for which it paid 27,000 million pesos (mp) to Grupo Bimbo.
“With this operation, the company is facing the possibility of having a better position in the snacks and confectionery industry by offering its customers a portfolio of leading brands in the categories of gummies and candies, cookies, chocolate, gummies, chocolates, spicy candies, cream cheese, cajeta and cajeta-based candies,” the company said in a statement.
In this way, Mondelēz adds to its product portfolio a series of well-known candies in Mexico, such as the Clown Palette, Vero Sweets, Panditas, Coronado Cajeta, La Corona Chocolates and many more.
Likewise, the 6,300 people who worked for Ricolino will go to work for Mondelēz Snacking Mexico.
“The union of Mondelēz México and Ricolino represents the sum of the greatness of two iconic companies, which for years have been positioned as the favorites of consumers, which have filled Mexico and the World with incredible moments, with unique flavors, traditions and diversity that no one else has in the snack market,” said Oriol Bonaclocha, president of Mondelēz Mexico.
For his part, Fernando Lerdo de Tejada, Deputy General Director of Grupo Bimbo, thanked the Ricolino family for their commitment and dedication that they demonstrated for years and that allowed emblematic brands to become the spoiled and beloved of Mexicans.
On April 25, 2022, it was announced that the Bimbo company signed an agreement for the sale of its confectionery business, Ricolino, to Mondelēz International, Inc. for an amount of the value of the company of 27,000 million pesos ($1.367 million).
Ricolino reported 10,147 million pesos in net sales in 2021representing 2.9% of Grupo Bimbo’s total income.
