Bill Gates ensures that the development of artificial intelligence (AI) could reach a point where no one would need to use search engines and productivity sitesnor buy online.
Speaking in AI Forward and quoted in Business Insideran event in San Francisco organized by Goldman Sachs Group and SV Angel, Gates detailed that major artificial intelligence companies would likely create a personal digital agentwhich would eliminate the need for some popular sites.
“Whoever wins the personal agent, that’s the most important thing, because you’ll never go to a search site again, you’ll never go to a productivity site again, you’ll never go to Amazon again”, explained the philanthropist.
One way such an agent could perform time-saving tasks would be to help them “read the things you don’t have time to read”added Bill Gates.
Microsoft and its role with artificial intelligence
Gates added that he hoped Microsoft was in the race to develop this type of technology, but there was also a 50/50 chance that the future leader in AI would be a start-up.. The billionaire said the technology was still a long way from being ready for general use.
Last March, the Microsoft co-founder published a seven-page letter, “The AI Era Has Begun,” outlining some of his views on artificial intelligence and how it will influence the world in the coming years.
He wrote that the development of technology was “as fundamental as the creation of the microprocessor, the personal computer, the Internet, and the mobile phone.”
