The International Jury of the 73rd edition of the Berlin International Film Festival announced this Saturday, February 25, the winners of the Official Competition. The Golden Bear for Best Film went to the French documentary Sur l’Adamant (On the Adamant), by Nicolas Philibert. However, the echo of the Mexican representation was felt again within the Berlinale 2023.
Filmmaker Tatiana Huezo won two awards for the echo: Best Director in the Encounters section, as well as the Best Documentary Award from the Berlinale. With his sensitivity and incisive gaze, the documentary focuses on the children of a rural community in Puebla, and the legacy of their parents during their formative years that stays with them forever.
Mexican productions also received other recognitions outside of those awarded by the International Jury headed this year by Kirsten Stewart. Totemby Lila Avilés, won the Ecumenical Jury Competition Award among the independent awards, which is awarded by the INTERFILM and SIGNIS organizations in 1992. On the other hand, adolfoSofia Auza’s debut feature, received the Crystal Bear for Best Film in the Generation 14Plus parallel section, which focuses on avant-garde international cinema for young audiences.
