The premiere of ‘Barbie’ has exceeded box office expectations in all theaters. Since its premiere in Latin America on July 20, it managed to position itself as the best premiere so far in 2023.
The feature film starring Margot Robbie hit theaters in the United States last Friday, July 21, and the figures that it generated only on its first day are already known. In the North American country, “Barbie” has managed to accumulate more than 22.3 million dollars at the box office since its premiere. This is a sum of 1.1 million dollars in previews from Wednesday, July 19 in 500 rooms and 21.2 million from Thursday in 3,400 rooms.
In this way, “Barbie” surpasses “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3”, which achieved 17.5 million dollars in its premiere in the United States on May 5, 2023. Achieving this figure is a great success for the production company Warner Bross, after the little success that “The Flash” had with Ezra Miller.
The production inspired by the famous Mattel doll was launched together with Christopher Nolan’s work “Oppenheimer”. The same, reached only 10.5 million dollars at the box office in 3,150 theaters during the same period of time.
The premiere was a flop in China
In China, the premiere of ‘Barbie’ has been classified as a failure. Greta Gerwig’s film had a lukewarm debut at the Chinese box office, grossing just $960,000 on its first day of release, closing at 6:30 p.m. This means that “Barbie” debuted in sixth place in China, behind domestic film productions.

It should be noted that, although “Barbie” competes directly with Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” throughout the world, that was not the situation in the Asian country because regulators have not yet assigned a release date to the director of “Batman Begins”.
