The Bank of Spain officially approved the company Bit2Me as the first exchange and custodian of bitcoin (BTC) and other cryptocurrencies that operates in the European nation. This happens after a registry for companies in the industry began in 2021.
«The regulatory body has confirmed its registration, which makes Bit2Me the first company in the world to achieve it», this was announced by Bit2Me in its Blogtoday, February 17.
Bit2Me founded in 2014, was one of the first Spanish companies dedicated to the business of buying and selling bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in Spain.
The approval of the regulator is the first that is known, after October of last year, enable registration for service providers with cryptocurrencies, framed in Law 10/2020 on Prevention of Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism, as reported by CriptoNoticias.
The highest issuing entity in Spain had until October 29, 2021 to share the forms with which both banks and exchanges would report their activities related to the emerging market.
Then the Bank would take up to 3 months to make the considerations relevant and that time has come with the announcement of the exchange’s approval.
Leif Ferreira, CEO of Bit2Me, assures that the recognition of the regulator is a boost to their commercial relations. “Being the first company in the world to achieve this recognition speaks for itself about the security with which our service is being developed and the confidence in Bit2Me,” he asserted.
The bitcoin exchange also operates in Latin America
Although Bit2Me is a company located in Spain, its growth has allowed it to reach the Latin American market.
Its most recent expansion was to13 countries in that region last September. Among those nations are: Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras, Uruguay, Bolivia, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Jamaica, Martinique, Dominica and Guyana.
In total, there are 26 Latin American and Caribbean nations that have Bit2Me services. This includes Argentina, Chile or Brazil, among the most prominent.
