As is known, Gonzales finished the 2022/2023 season as the best player in Al Adalah. He played 26 games in the Saudi Pro League, registering four goals and five assists; but these figures were not enough to avoid the relegation of his team, which will now play the Second Division of Arab football starting next year. Faced with the new panorama and despite the fact that the Peruvian midfielder has a contract until mid-2025 with the club, the situation forces him to make an important decision for his immediate future, also thinking about what comes with the national team: change teams and win a place in the headlines again.
Continuing his career away from Al Adalah is a necessity for Gonzales from a sporting and financial point of view. But let’s go in parts. Regarding the first, it is clear that a footballer of his level, who plays abroad and is part of the national team, urgently needs to maintain a constant and adequate rhythm of competition, because that allows him to maintain a regularity for the benefit of the bicolor . The Qualifiers are about to start and ‘Canchita’, after what he showed in the friendlies against the South Koreans and Japanese, has become a key element for Reynoso, especially now where the absence of a ’10’ takes its toll and the level of Cave is below the required. With him, the team wins a lot; but without him, it is one more problem for the ‘Cabezón’. So, it is key to continue in a league that demands demand and competitiveness, like the Arab, where there will be figures such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kanté, among others.
On the economic side, Al Adalah will suffer a considerable reduction in its budget due to the relegation to the Second Division and that directly affects Gonzales. Since the club does not have the same income, it is almost impossible to keep some high-cost players like ‘Canchita’, who will have to look for other challenges. In Saudi Arabia, the government offers significant money to all the teams in the Saudi Pro League, so many of them include it in their annual budgets. But the same does not happen with the clubs of a lower category and for this reason it is necessary to use other resources. In this sense, the business group that represents the Peruvian decided to separate him from Al Adalah and place him in another institution.
At the moment, the Saudi Arabian and Turkish leagues are attractive and close markets for Gonzales, whose priority is to stay competitive. As it became known, returning to Liga 1, specifically to Sporting Cristal, is not something he has in his plans for now. ‘Canchita’ wants to continue outside and will depend on the offers that come to Al Adalah for him to change teams. The national team and Reynoso need him. The ’10 ′ of the bicolor is facing his next challenge: define his immediate future.
