What seemed like a quiet night turned into a nightmare. On the night of this Wednesday, November 15, a group of armed subjects entered and committed an assault on the facilities of the Tonala Cinema, located in the Cuauhtémoc mayor’s office in Mexico City. There they stripped several of the attendees of their belongings.
The events occurred around 9:20 pm Cafeteria customers (at least 15) report that there were at least five individuals who arrived on scooters and with weapons in hand. These diners were the most harmed, as the group of assailants took their belongings and left them incommunicado.
Through their Twitter account, those responsible for the place condemned what happened and requested the support of the capital authorities.
Likewise, we request the support of the authorities of the Cuauhtémoc mayor’s office and the CdMx to investigate this fact, which has occurred previously. @claudiashein @sandracuevas_ @c5_cdmx @ssc_cdmx @oharfuch

“Unfortunately tonight we were once again the victim of an assault. Fortunately our collaborators and assistants are well and without any damage. For our part, we want to inform you that we will reinforce the security body of the cinema. We also request the support of the authorities of the Cuauhtémoc mayor’s office and of the CDMX to investigate this fact, which has arisen previously, “says the tweet.
The criminals also sought to enter the rooms of the complex, but were unable to do so. Some users on social networks who were there affirm that a cinema employee took refuge in one of the rooms and closed the door. This situation prevented the existence of more victims. The attendees who were enjoying the projection took shelter under the seats and also behind them.
According to the victims of the event, elements of the police arrived a few minutes after the corresponding call was made. According to the statements, there was not a single detonation of a firearm or physical attacks against diners or employees of the venue.
Kevin Rodríguez, one of those affected by the assault, recounted what happened. He also expressed his concern for the loss of his work equipment, whose value amounts to $100 thousand pesos (via Excelsior):
“Five guys came, apparently on scooters they entered. They got to the bottom, came back and everyone had cell phones and wallets taken from them in the restaurant area. Luckily they did not enter the movie theater, which was full. They took $100,000 pesos worth of photographic equipment from me, the problem is that it is what I work with, ”he commented.
In 2017, Cine Tonalá suffered its first assault by a group of criminals who entered and took the belongings of those present under the same modus operandi.
Currently, the authorities of Mexico City are already analyzing the surveillance cameras to identify the assailants and determine the route they took to escape after the assault on the Tonalá Cinema.
Juan Jose Cruz I am one of those who always defended Robert Pattinson as Batman and can see the same movie in the theater up to 7 times. My guilty pleasure? Low budget horror movie.
