Audi Sport continues to take steps when outlining its project in the DTM 2022. If last season the firm from Ingolstadt had a total of five Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo on the grid in the hands of Team Rosberg and Team Abt, for the new campaign the German manufacturer has prepared changes. Abt Sportsline will remain in the championship, as is Team Rosberg expected to do. But nevertheless, the signing of the four rings will have a third team on the grid with the arrival of Attempto Racing and the young talent Marius Zug.
Attempto Racing has become one of Audi’s reference structures in its ‘customer-racing’ program in GT3. Present at the GTWC Europe or the Intercontinental GT Challenge, the team has regularly counted on official drivers from the brand to shape its driver line-ups. Now, Attempto Racing lands in the DTM with an Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II. The Hannover team will look for success in the series with a very talented 19-year-old like Marius Zugnatural pilot from Pfaffenhofen.
Marius Zug faces the most important challenge of his still short career after debuting in GT racing just three years ago and becoming runner-up in the GT4 European Series and ADAC GT4 Germany in 2019. In the last two years he has competed with GT3 machinery in the Italian GT Championship: “Racing in the touring car and GT car championships has been my goalso I’m happy to have signed this contract with Attempto Racing to compete in the DTM, especially since I did it on my birthday. For me it’s a dream come true“.
«With Marius Zug, we have a gem in our team. I’ve been following him for a few years now and was pleased to notice how he was getting stronger and stronger in GT4. I am sure that it will also surprise in GT3. For us, this is also a dream. We had been thinking about getting involved in the DTM for a while.. Now, we will do our best to make a good impression on this high-quality stage. With Marius, we believe that we will be able to be in the middle of the grid and gradually climb to the top positions », he assured Arkin Akadirector of Attempto Racing.
The arrival of new talent and a team like Attempto Racing is always good news for the DTM, as he admits Frederic Elsner as director of events and operations of ITR, promoter of the series: «Having an extremely young, fast and determined driver is great news. Also having a new team linked to Audi. I think they form a very strong duo of newcomers and that always means that the DTM wins in youth and competition. The championship is even more exciting now».
