Fernando Alonso’s future team is making a promising comeback, as in two races it has gone from penultimate in the constructors’ standings to fighting for sixth place with Alfa Romeo.
The Formula 1 season is very long and things are not how they start, but how they end. Let them tell Fernando Alonso’s future team, which has turned his situation around in just two races.
Aston Martin has been heavily criticized for his performance this season. During most of it, those in green have fought with Williams to avoid the tenth and last place in the constructors’ championship.
Aston Martin has scored points in 10 of the last 12 races
Nevertheless, the introduction of version B of the Aston Martin AMR22 has ended up changing things and now Aston Martin fights for the sixth place currently held by Alfa Romeo.
Points in 10 of 12 races
The new Aston Martin was introduced in the Spanish Grand Prixuntil which time the team had managed to score points in only two of the six races held.
However, since then things have been improving and, although the car has been very weak in qualifying, its race pace has allowed it to climb positions and reach the Top 10 in ten of the last 12 races played.
While AlphaTauri, Haas and Alfa Romeo have suffered for points, four, two and three races respectively, Aston Martin has been adding almost without pause to overcome the first two in Singapore and considerably reduce the disadvantage with the third in the chaos of Suzuka.
money and prestige
In the event that Aston Martin manages to overcome the disadvantage of 7 points which Alfa Romeo currently enjoys, would finish a disastrous season in sixth position, the same as last year.
This is more than feasible given the performance of both teams in recent races, with four remaining to be played: United States, Mexico, Brazil and Abu Dhabi.
The position in the constructors’ championship is vital because it influences the economic distribution of benefits: the higher you are, the more money you receive for the following year.
In addition, it would allow Aston Martin to get some air after a season full of criticism and doubts about the real capacity of a formation that aspires to become a candidate for the title in the near future.
While Fernando Alonso is working hard to get Alpine to finish the season in fourth place in the championship, he’s sure to be looking a bit further down to see if his future team finally manages to finish sixth.
