The Lost Ark gaming community has grown by leaps and bounds as the game has dominated player charts and viewership numbers since its release on February 9. Almost three weeks have passed since then. However, the hype remains strong, unlike New World, which continues to flourish in the face of newer titles like Elden Ring.
Something that seems quite curious to us is that Asmon is convinced that there is a reason behind this. He told fans that Lost Ark is designed in a way that encourages players to control their own pace in the form of ‘access time’, which in turn encourages player retention.
“Lost Ark does a good job of pacing players and also timing and preventing players from finishing the game too quickly,” Asmon explained. “That’s why it retains players even after they hit level 50.
“You’re seeing such high retention because Lost Ark has very well-designed retention systems to prevent players from completing the game too quickly unless they spend a ton of money.” Asmon believes that another intended feature also plays a role: the amount of depth built in:
“There are also a ton of secondary systems. Things like collecting the cards. Not everyone is convinced that the hype will not die down. Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel and Jeremy ‘Disguised Toast’ Wang think it’s only a matter of time before it happens. The release of Elden Ring could also divert attention as the weekend rolls around.
