45 years after its original recording, and after the death of John Lennon and George Harrison, The Beatles will re-release a theme. And all thanks to Artificial Intelligence, according to what Paul McCartney told the BBC.
According to the legendary singer, technology made it possible to rescue the subject, which, although he did not name it, would be Now and Then, composed by Lennon in 1978.
“We just finished it and it will be released this year.” McCartney said on the Today show, from BBC Radio 4.
The group attempted to record Now and Then, a love song, but for a special reason they could not do it.
“The song had a chorus, but it is almost completely devoid of verses.” said Jeff Lynne, the band’s producer. “We did the backing track, some groundwork that we didn’t really finish.”
George Harrison refused to work on the song, saying that the sound quality of Lennon’s voice was “garbage”. “The Beatles being a democracy,” McCartney recalled, “we didn’t.”
There were other technical problems with the original recording, including a persistent hum from the electrical circuits in John’s apartment, where it was recorded
Artificial Intelligence saves Now and Then, by The Beatles
For several years, the subject continued to spin in Paul McCartney’s head. Until Artificial Intelligence arrived.
With the technology used in Peter Jackson’s documentary Get Back, when at the time it was possible to clean up audio from old videos separating band members, the job would be done with Now and Then.
“We had John’s voice and a piano, and we could separate them with Artificial Intelligence”, McCartney told the BBC. “They tell the machine, ‘That’s the voice. This is a guitar. Put away the guitar.”
“So when we got to making what would be the last Beatles record, We used a demo that John had, we took his voice and got it pure with this AI.” Paul added.
“It gives a little scary, but it’s exciting, because it’s the future. We will have to see where it takes us”, stressed the legendary musician.
Just wait to hear the result, which should happen very soon.
