Microsoft has been one of the great promoters of Artificial Intelligence, partnering with OpenAI for different development programs. However, its president, Brad Smith, draws limits on the freedoms of technology.
In an interview with the North American network CNBC, Brad Smith stated that humanity must continue to have control over Artificial Intelligence.
“We have to make sure that Artificial Intelligence remain subject to human control.” said the Microsoft chief.
There are many fears about an unleashed Artificial Intelligence wiping out humanity. For Smith, it is key that people, especially the great political, military and scientific authorities, hold the reins of technology.
“I believe that every technology has the potential to become as much a tool as a weapon.” said the president of Microsoft.
“Whether it’s a government, or the military, or any type of organization that’s thinking about using AI to automate, let’s say, critical infrastructure, we need to make sure that we have humans in control that we can slow things down or turn them off.” stressed.
For Smith, the AI is a co-pilot, not a pilot. It will not replace human thought, but it will be a tool to give it a greater horizon.
“It is a tool that can help think smarter and faster. The biggest mistake that people could make is to think that it is a tool that will allow them to stop thinking,” Smith said in his interview with CNBC.
“That’s why at Microsoft we call our services co-pilots”.
And he gives a key example: “The ability to take a Word document and turn it into a PowerPoint slide doesn’t mean you shouldn’t read PowerPoint slides before presenting them. In fact, you should edit them and leave them perfect.
