Arnica is a plant well known for its anti-inflammatory action. For its part, coconut is a food that contains numerous nutrients that, according to popular belief, can provide several health benefits.
Sometimes, when low back pain is present and makes routine difficult, the person may want various forms of relief, in addition to rest and pharmacological treatment as prescribed by their doctor. Among the options that the doctor could recommend is the ointment prepared with arnica and coconut oil.
It should be remembered that if you feel any discomfort, the most recommended is to go to the doctor before taking any action. Otherwise, you run the risk of exacerbating the problem.
Low back pain is one of the most frequent reasons for medical consultation and absences from work.
According to the MSD Manual, low back pain is usually caused by disorders in the spine, muscles, ligaments and nerve roots of the area. On the other hand, it should be borne in mind that there are many factors that can influence the problem (such as weight, lack of exercise, among others). Therefore, it is difficult to establish a single cause.
What is clear is that the discomfort can have a variable intensity and that, to a greater or lesser extent, can impede the normal performance of activities.
Some of the frequent causes of back pain are:
- Arthritis.
- Disc herniation.
- Osteoporosis.
- Fibromyalgia.
- Compression fractures.
- Bone irregularities (such as scoliosis).
- Muscle strain and ligament sprains.
- Among other.
Less frequent (and more serious) causes:
- Infections in the spine.
- Tumors in the spine.
- Digestive disorders, urinary tract or pelvis.
- Among other.
In the event that back pain is accompanied by fever, a digestive or urinary disorder and other symptoms, it is essential to see a doctor as soon as possible.
Ointment with beeswax, arnica and coconut oil
Arnica is a plant whose compounds have anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. Several species contain helenalin, a substance that has become the main ingredient in anti-inflammatory preparations to treat bruises, bruises and other injuries.
For its part, the body assimilates the saturated fatty acids contained in coconut oil very well, as they are of plant origin. In its composition, there are lauric, palmitic and linoleic acids, as well as iron, vitamins E and K.
As for beeswax, evidence has been found that this substance has a moderate anti-inflammatory effect.
By combining these three ingredients, we can obtain an ointment with a pleasant aroma, which in addition to hydrating the skin, can help alleviate discomfort such as back pain.
Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons and a half of beeswax (45 g).
- 3 teaspoons of coconut oil (15 ml).
- 3 tablespoons of arnica essential oil (30 ml).
Process
- Place the beeswax in a container and heat it in a water bath.
- Once it has melted, lower the heat and start adding the oils.
- Stir everything with the help of a spoon.
- Let the mixture sit for a moment.
- Turn off the heat and let the mixture warm before applying it to the painful area.
To consider
When back pain occurs, the first thing to do is see a doctor for evaluation and diagnosis. Then, it will be essential to follow their recommendations.
In case the professional authorizes it, you can resort to a cream or ointment that we have previously mentioned. Of course, you must bear in mind that this will be an adjunctive treatment, not a solution as such to the problem.
