Within Bethesda, Arkane Studios has become one of the most beloved companies in the video game industry. Much of the responsibility rests with Raphael Colantonio, founder and former president of the studio and creative director of games like Dishonored or Prey until he left the company in 2017 due to creative anxiety and decided to create a smaller studio, WolfEye Studios, which recently released its first game, Weird West. Now, in that sense, Arkane founder charges Bethesda for Prey titlewhich as stated in the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences (via PC Gamer), was forced to abide by that name despite the fact that he did not want it.
“I didn’t want to call this game Prey. I had to say that I wanted it anyway in front of the journalists, which is not a pleasure for me. I hate lying. And those are lies to sell, it’s not a personal lie or whatever you want to call it. But it still feels wrong to have to support a message that I didn’t want. not only me, but no one on the team wanted to call this game Prey. Our game had nothing to do with Prey”, commented Colantonio, lamenting that Bethesda imposed an order that no game developer agreed with and that did not agree with what the title they had in their hands really was.
A Redfall location is bigger than all Prey
“It was never our intention to steal your IP and make it our own. I was plan ‘this is rude’, this is not what I want to do. Everybody lost. And sales were horrible, by the way, for Prey. It was not a good decision”, continues Colantonio before ending with a resounding “it was a kick in the face” from the developers of the original game. Arkane Studios’ Prey is part of Xbox Game Pass, as well as Weird West, the new game from Raphael Colantonio already as founder and president of his new studio WolfEye Studios.
