The Argentine Minister of Labor, Raquel “Kelly” Kismer de Olmos, asked that the fight against inflation be left in the background during the World Cup in Qatar, since “a month is not going to make a big difference.”
“Then we continue working with inflation, but first let Argentina win“, assured in an interview with Canal 9 Olmos, who took office on October 13, replacing Claudio Moroni.
“I consider that you have to work all the time for inflation, but one month is not going to make a big difference and, on the other hand, from the emotional point of view, of what it means for all Argentine men and women, we want Argentina to be champion”, he added.
Olmos’ statements sowed a strong controversy in the country, whose consumer prices experienced a year-on-year rise of 83% last September.
In fact, the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec) will release this Tuesday the inflation data for October, which is expected to be high again.
Last October, Argentina and the International Monetary Fund revised upwards the inflation projection for this year, up to a range of 90-100%, and that of 2023, to 55-65%.
Meanwhile, the most recent private forecasts collected monthly by the Central Bank indicate that inflation will be 100% this year and 90% in 2023.
The Mexican team will face Argentina led by Lionel Messi on Saturday, November 26 at 7:00 a.m. in central Mexico.
