If you want to visit USAyou must request a visa. However, this one is not given as easy as it reads. This requires a process that requires money, documentation and a face-to-face interview, where finally the representatives of the North American nation will decide if it is granted to you… Or not.
If you are thinking of starting this long process, we have bad news for you. As of May 2023 there will be an increase in the price of the document. And even if you have made your appointment in advance, if it is after the 30th of that month, you will have to pay the rate adjustment.

This increase is not for a specific visa, but covers B1 and B2, among others. Below we show you the new prices stipulated by the Department of State:
- Tourist visa or for medical treatment (B1, B2, BBC): from 160 dollars to 185 dollars (approximately 3,380 Mexican pesos)
- Visa for temporary work (H, L, O, P, Q and R): from 190 dollars to 205 dollars (approximately 3,750 pesos)
- Trader and Investor Visa (E): From 205 to 315 dollars (approximately 5,748 pesos)
When can I reapply for the American visa if I have already been denied once?
There are several reasons why the document is denied and depending on the one that corresponds to you, it is the period that you must wait to process it again. For example, if you were missing a document, the embassy grants a one-year extension to get it and go for a second attempt.
In the event that in the past you have had legal issues with the United States —crossing the border without permission or others—, the time frame is longer. In addition, the background influences the subsequent attempts. If they do not authorize the visa ‘the first time’, in the following occasions it can be even more difficult.
For what other reasons can I be denied a visa?
- You do not have the necessary evidence to prove your return: According to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) document “Grounds for Denial Under Immigration and Nationality Law,” failure to establish the right to nonimmigrant status is a of the reasons for not extending the visa. This is based on section 214(B), if a tourist visa is not the correct one for a travel plan, if the person did not demonstrate that they would use the visa correctly, or if they did not demonstrate that they have strong ties to their country of origin. Some important factors that are normally considered are work, studies and family situation.
- You are missing documents: The documentation requested depends on the visa for immigrants, which in the case of H-B1 temporary workers (Professionals with Specialized Work, Cooperative Research with the DOD and Workers of Development Projects and Haute Couture Models), must have a university degree, as well as evidence that the person has the necessary knowledge to perform the required work. While for the students, they need the academic documents that support the educational program, as well as the authorization of the school for the program.
- Cheating in the application and/or interview: If you are not transparent or hide the truth in the application and/or interview, it is still a reason for rejection of the visa application. The United States government indicates that committing fraud ranges from magnifying personal details to hiding something very serious. For example, you should avoid exaggerating income, claiming false employment, missing a police stop (even if it was many years ago), or using another identity at any time.
