We will almost be able to see the continuation of the Arthur Curry/Aquaman story in theaters. Now, the director explains why the sixty-year-old actor did not return for the film.
The sequel to Aquaman will continue telling us the journey of Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) as the protector of his kingdom, Atlantis. In particular, we will see the development of the relationship between Curry and Orm, his half-brother, played by Patrick Wilson, who functioned as an antagonistic figure in the previous film. In that first installment, Willem Dafoe functioned as a mentor to Arthurso it was logical to expect his character to appear in this sequel.

However, in an interview with Entertainment WeeklyJames Wan confirmed that Dafoe is not part of the credits of Aquaman 2. Although, there is no need to be alarmed, since everything occurred due to scheduling conflicts:
“Willen is not in this [película], No. Part of the reason is that their schedule [de trabajo] It didn’t work for us. But what that allowed me was to expand Atlanna’s role. Atlanna becomes this [entrega] in Arthur’s advisor. Since Arthur doesn’t come from this kingdom [submarino]she helps him better understand the world and the politics of how things work.”
Atlanna is played by Nicole Kidman and is Arthur Curry’s mother. In the previous film we learned that Atlanna fell in love with Arthur’s father and started a family with him. However, after being attacked by Atlantis soldiers, she decides to abandon her partner and her son to protect them. It was then that Atlanna conceived Orm, but is eventually exiled from the kingdom of Atlantis, until she is reunited with Arthur.
It will be sad not to see Nuidis Vulko once again. But it will be interesting to watch the evolution of Nicole Kidman’s character. As to Willem Dafoe, we will see him shortly in poor creatures, by Yorgos Lanthimos. You can see the trailer for the film that won the Golden Lion in Venice here.
