Manzana revealed serious security vulnerabilities in iPhones, iPads and Macs on Wednesday. Software flaws could allow attackers to take complete control of these devices, Apple said in two security reports. The company said it is “aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited.”
Security experts have advised users to update affected devices: iPhones 6S and later; various iPad models, including fifth generation and later, all iPad models iPad Pro and iPad Air 2; and Mac computers running MacOS Monterey.
It also affects some iPod models.
Explanation
Apple’s explanation of the vulnerability means a hacker could gain “full admin access to the device” to be able to “execute any code as if it were you, the user,” said Rachel Tobac, CEO of SocialProof Security.
Those who should be especially vigilant to update their software are “people who are in the public eye”, such as activists or journalistswhich could be the target of sophisticated espionage by nation-states, Tobac noted.
