The demand of iPhone 14 Pro Y ProMax for the Holidays could be seriously affected due to China’s “zero COVID” policy. One reason is that Foxconn, a key Taiwan-based maker of Apple iPhones, is struggling to get its workers back.
This Sunday Apple released a statement warning that the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max will be delayed due to COVID-19 restrictions at a relevant facility in Zhengzhou, China.
“The facility is currently operating at a significantly reduced capacity. As we have done during the COVID-19 pandemic, we are prioritizing the health and safety of workers in our supply chain,” the statement said.
The Pro and Pro Max models of the iPhone are the most expensive of the brand with a price of 999 and 1,099 dollars, respectively. In Mexico they are traded from 25,999 pesos.
The iPhone 14 Pro is affected by China’s “zero COVID” policy
Several companies and industries that manufacture in China have been affected by the country’s “zero COVID” policy, which began early in the pandemic.
Reuters reported that COVID-related issues could cut iPhone production at the facility by 30 percent.
Videos have surfaced since last week showing employees appearing to flee the “iPhone City” factory across highways to escape the harsh conditions of the facility’s lockdown amid a COVID outbreak.
Reuters reported that Foxconn published an offer of 500 yuan ($68) for the workers to return to the factory. New hires will be paid 30 yuan per hour (US$84), although it is unclear if this is an increase from the previous salary.
Foxconn makes 70% of Apple’s iPhones and employs about 1.3 million people.
