The boys from Cupertino blew our minds when they presented their new Apple Vision Proan ambitious Mixed Reality viewer (mixture of Virtual Reality with Augmented Reality) with which they seek to revolutionize the industry and crush all their competitors.
It takes a long time for the device to go on sale officially. But at least in terms of hardware, everything indicates that we are facing a gadget of the future, with specifications and processing power well above what exists on the market today.
This is as important a leap as the evolution from iPod to iPhone was a few years ago for Apple. So as would be obvious to expect, the company is laying the groundwork to come out with as much force and breadth of options as possible.
This is where developers will be playing a more than important role in the development of new applications and immersive experiences that fully exploit the capabilities offered by Apple Vision Pro.
The company is building a new ecosystem from scratch, so the SDK (Software Development Kit) or software development kit have become a vital component for this project. Where, many do not know, there is a viewer simulator.
How to try the Apple Vision Pro simulator on your Mac
The folks at Apple just released the latest update to the SDK included in the xcode 15 beta 2which is nothing more than the necessary software package for any developer who wishes to delve into the world of the future operating system for this device.
visionOSIt will be, roughly speaking, the current equivalent to what we now know as iPadOS or iOS. The mobile Operating System for the Apple Vision Pro from where all the graphical interface and particularly the applications will run.
This is how within the SDK there is a Simulator for the Mixed Reality viewer, which is a tool that can help developers to visualize what the exact experience of using their application would be like in that gadget. So this is what you need to be able to test the viewer:
- A Mac with macOS Ventura 13.3
- An Apple account registered to the Apple Developer Program. Doing so is free and fast, although it will be necessary to register some personal information.
- When completing the registration you just have to go to the download page for Apple developers
- Sign in with your Apple account
- download of xcode 15 beta 2
And voila, then it will be a matter of configuring everything to have access to the viewer. Fortunately they exist some tutorials in spanish that detail each step of the installation.
