The much-anticipated larger Apple Silicon-powered iMac will be unveiled in early 2022.
With the newly introduced MacBook Pros, the next logical step for Apple would be to focus on a new, larger iMac. The current 27-inch iMac maintains the old design and still uses Intel processors, it is one of the few that still does. But this could change very soon, as it seems that we’ll see a 27-inch iMac with an M1 chip in early 2022.
In early 2021 Apple introduced its refurbished iMac with the M1 chip, however, only came in one size: 24 inches. Traditionally the iMac has been available in two sizes, the largest being much more powerful. And this strategy could be repeated.
A 27-inch iMac with ProMotion by 2022
According Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, Apple plans to introduce a new 27-inch iMac in early 2022. This new iMac will feature a mini-LED panel, so your screen will have the name XDR, and will have ProMotion and a variable refresh rate up to 120 Hz, like the new MacBook Pros.
Young has not talked about other aspects such as the design, the screen resolution or the processors that this new iMac will use, although other rumors have done so before.
Hopefully we will have a design very similar to the 24-inch iMac but in a larger size. The current resolution of the 27-inch iMac is 5K, so at least we would have that pixel density.
And as for the processors, considering that the current iMac uses a 6-core i5 in its base model and can be configured with up to a 10-core i9, it is possible that Apple includes multiple versions with the M1, M1 Pro, and M1 Max.
The current 27-inch iMac starts with the 1,999 euros, but in its maximum configurations it can reach 10,000 euros. We probably have a similar price range, as has happened with the rest of the Mac range with M1.
