A new scenario opens for Apple Macs: will use HDMI 2.1 port and cable, instead of traditional HDMI 2.0.
Since this week the information has been made official, which, as indicated by the expert Miguel López, from the specialized Spanish portal Applesfera, represents great news for enthusiasts and professionals alike.
At the moment, only Mac mini with M2 Pro chip and MacBook Pro with M2 Pro chip and M2 Max, with 8K displays, they would have the new port. There is no official confirmation from Apple in this regard.
In the future it is expected that all Macs have it.
The advantages of using HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) 2.1 will be detailed below, thanks to what was analyzed by Applesfera.
These are the four most important improvements in Macs with the use of the HDMI 2.1 port
Here are the main advances thanks to Apple’s decision to replace HDMI 2.0 with HDMI 2.1 on Macs:
- The data bandwidth increases: HDMI 2.1 can work with 48 Gbps, instead of the 18 Gbps of HDMI 2.0 ports and cables. Improve both the resolution and the refresh rate.
- It can support ALLM, a low latency mode that is constantly optimized based on the content on the screen. According to Applesfera, it is used by the PlayStation 5.
- It is possible to transmit eARC from a Mac to a monitor with prepared speakers.
- It will be decisive for 10, 12 and 16 bit color encoders, in order to use very high quality monitors and resolutions, especially for video editors.
It is a matter of time before they begin to market Macs with HDMI 2.1, expected for the first half of 2023. Are we ready to enjoy this new stage?
