As one of the best competitive battle royale games, apex legends features many professional players who compete and often stream their gameplay on a regular basis. Recently, many of the game’s top stars have come together to participate in the latest Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) Championship, a LAN event.
One of the most popular of those assisting pro players is ImperialHal. As part of the TSM eSports organization, ImperialHal has made a name for himself playing apex legends since the launch of the battle royale in 2019.
Over the past few months, he has consistently streamed his gameplay to thousands of viewers on Twitch while teaming up with fellow TSM partners Verhulst and Reps. Although the pro is known for his competitive intensity, he was also recently praised for his sportsmanship.
While competing in the ALGS Championship event on Saturday, ImperialHal and his teammates encountered an unusual situation during one of their matches on the Edge of the World map. Heading to the train tracks outside of Fragment East, the pro player noticed an opponent standing in the open, not moving.
Quickly acknowledging that the enemy player had probably lost connection, ImperialHal told his teammates not to open fire. TSM then proceeded to walk away from the player, leaving them alone instead of attacking them..
The unusual circumstance of this event is definitely noteworthy. While it’s unknown how other pros would have handled the situation, as there doesn’t seem to be any rule that prohibits players from killing offline opponents, it’s still great to see a player show sportsmanship to teammates in the middle of a match.
Also, it should be noted that the ALGS Championship includes a $2 million prize pool, which makes this decision to forgive the absent player even more honorable, as it could have affected TSM’s chances of winning the event.
Since ImperialHal made this decision not to kill the offline player, numerous fans have commented on the situation. Among the comments, most fans were impressed by the sportsmanship displayed by the pro player in the middle of a high-level match, with many tweeting in support.
In fact, ImperialHal has since commented on his own decision in-game. “It’s the least all players with these issues can do,” the pro player noted, likely referring to the connection issues in Season 13 of apex legends.
Fortunately, this display of sportsmanship on ImperialHal’s part hasn’t compromised his team’s chances of winning the ALGS event. ImperialHal, along with his TSM squadmates Reps and Verhulst, have yet to make it through to today’s ALGS Championship round.
Time will tell if TSM or one of the other more competitive teams takes home the top prize. Regardless of which team wins, let’s hope there are no connection issues on apex legends during the grand final for the sake of those who compete.
