Associated European Motorists (AEA) has denounced what it considers to be another illegality of the public administrations, in this case related to the regulation of limited parking that is put into practice in 46 provincial capitals of the Spanish territory.
These limited parking areas, known among others as PRAY, OTA or SER Depending on the city, they must comply with the Official Catalog of Traffic Signs of the General Traffic Regulations, which determines how the areas destined for limited parking should be marked.
Said regulation specifies that the only road marking authorized to delimit the places where parking is allowed in certain periods of the day, its duration being limited, is color blue, so the use of other types of trademarks is illegal.
A redoubtable rainbow of anti-regulatory colors
In addition to blue, in the Spanish geography we can currently find limited parking areas marked with the color green (29 capitals), red (8 capitals), orange (22 capitals) or even sand (1 capital).
“The penalties imposed for not placing the ticket when parking in these squares painted in other colors are also illegal and actionable.”
Of the 52 capitals or autonomous cities of the territory, only Cáceres, Ceuta, Córdoba, Huesca, Jaén, Málaga, Ourense, Santander, Soria and Zamora comply with the regulations. In the rest – with the exception of Badajoz, Lugo, Melilla, Pontevedra and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where there are no regulated parking systems – «invented and illegal signage is being used that only the Government is responsible for approving and that creates confusion among the users “, states AEA.
As a result of this, AEA warns “that it is not only illegal to use road markings other than blue to delimit limited parking spaces, but also The sanctions that are imposed for not placing the ticket when parking in these places painted in other colors are also illegal and actionable ».
