- During the last weeks, at least five similar cases have been reported, demonstrating the state of the health infrastructure in the country.
- In addition to building more hospitals, it is also necessary to remodel existing ones to prevent this type of failure from happening again.
- Once again, an IMSS elevator made national news because it had serious failures and left several people trapped for more than 45 minutes.
Hospital infrastructure is one of the weakest parts of the country. The lack of investment accumulated over decades has wreaked serious havoc within the public sphere. In addition, there are also constant complaints regarding the current administration and the decisions that have been made. In the end, all these elements are responsible for the new failure that was reported in a elevator of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS).
These types of anomalies have become a constant in all public health services. Not even the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (ISSSTE) and the Ministry of Health (SSa) they are saved because similar events have also been recorded in their units.
For its part, it is necessary to point out that the construction of a hospital or clinic does not end with the delivery of the final work. In reality, it is a much more extensive process that also involves equipping the unit to have everything necessary to care for patients. While another central part is the remodeling of the facilities.
Although all equipment has an estimated period of useful life, it must be checked periodically to prevent accidents. It is a concept that applies everywhere and you should never skimp on resources.
The elevator of an IMSS hospital fails again
All of the above leads to an unfortunate incident that occurred in the IMSS Clinic No. 2 in Monterrey, Nuevo León. According to reports, the hospital’s main elevator got stuck on the fourth floor, causing four people inside to call for help.
The first action was to ask for help from the unit’s security team. Despite the efforts and disconnecting the electric power it was insufficient. Therefore, it was necessary to call Civil Protection to send a rescue team.
After about 45 minutes, the rescue of the trapped people was achieved. None suffered physical damage, although strong concern was generated, especially due to incidents that have occurred in other hospitals.
On the facts with an elevator of the HGZ with Family Medicine No. 2, #IMSSNL reports that the 3 people who were inside were unharmed. At 12:38 p.m., the report for the interruption in service was received and the protocol of the Internal Civil Protection Unit was activated. 1/3

So far the IMSS has not notified the origin of the elevator failure. Although what generates more doubts is the reason why this type of “accidents” occur more and more frequently.
Other hospitals where the same thing has happened
To recap, during the last few weeks at least five public hospitals have had failures of various kinds. The most serious case was that of Regional Hospital No. 18 of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in Playa del Carmen. The failure caused the death of the 6-year-old girl Aitana.
Another event that was reported occurred in the Regional General Hospital No. 46 of Guadalajara, which also belongs to the IMSS.
A third case was registered in the General Hospital “Dr. Fernando Ocaranza” of the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (ISSSTE), located in Hermosillo, Sonora.
While the fourth incident occurred in the General Hospital of Pachuca, which belongs to the Ministry of Health (SSa). In the end, all the cases are a sample of the state in which the public health system is located. In the same way that more hospitals are required, it is also necessary to remodel existing ones.
