According to a new Medium post published on Dec. 26, decentralized finance (DeFi) architect Andre Cronje reaffirmed the goals and priorities of the Fantom (FTM) ecosystem for 2023. Cronje, who previously created protocols like Yearn Finance and Keep3rV1, also revealed that he has accepted a position as a member of the board of directors of both Fantom Foundation Ltd and Fantom Operations Ltd, which in turn oversees the eponymous directed acrylic graphic ecosystem.
“Our overall goal over the next 12 months will be to create an environment for dapp developers to build sustainable businesses, while differentiating ourselves from other Tier 1 solutions.”
Key points in Cronje’s Fantom 2023 roadmap include gas monetization, which would allow revenue sharing from decentralized applications, or DApps, as an incentive for development. Furthermore, Fantom’s DApps could interact without the need for a wallet to pay gas fees itself through gas subsidies. “Users do not need to have or know about FTM [durante el proceso de incorporación]”Cronje wrote.
Other areas of “gas reform” include ending the differentiation between smart contracts and externally owned accounts so that everyone can initiate transactions and pay for gas. Non-FTM tokens could also be used as gas fees in the protocol.
As for new developments, Cronje plans to focus on building the Fantom virtual machine and a new storage mechanism. Regarding the financial management of the protocol, Cronje wrote:
“As has been publicly communicated, we are in a very sustainable and healthy position given the current economic climate, and especially compared to 2018. This is finally a threat to our existence that we don’t have to worry too much about.”
Cointelegraph previously reported on Dec. 1, 2022, that Fantom announced plans to reduce its token burn rate by 75% to fund its DApp bounty program. DApps must have registered 1,000,000 or more transactions and have spent three months or more on the Fantom Opera network to be eligible for rewards.
