The gut microbiota, made up of a diverse community of microorganisms that inhabit our digestive tract, has been the subject of much interest in the world of medical research. Therefore, it is important to promote spaces where you can delve much deeper and obtain valuable information.
In Mexico, there are important opportunities such as the call for the National Research Award, where, since 2018, a topic has been provided to further open the research landscape.
This year, the topic was: “Antibiotics and their effects on the Gut Ecosystem”, a crucial question to understand how antibiotics affect our microbiota and, therefore, our health in general.
In a ceremony, on October 10, 2023, the Award for the winning Project of the Mexico 2023 Call was held, an initiative promoted by the Biocodex Microbiota Foundation.
As a result, the participation of prominent professionals and researchers in various medical and scientific disciplines was obtained. With a firm commitment to research and the promotion of public health, the Biocodex Microbiota Foundation awarded a grant of 25,000 euros to the selected project, which, it is worth mentioning, stood out among 11 other proposals.
The project was selected as the winner for its cutting-edge approach and potential impact on understanding the transmission of antibiotic resistance through the maternal microbiota and its impact on the long-term health of newborns.
The project leader, Dr. Cuauhtémoc Licona Cassani, was present during the press conference and expressed his enthusiasm for the potential impact of this research in the field of health. Accompanying Dr. Licona Cassani, a multidisciplinary team of experts in various branches of science and medicine, dedicated their talent and effort to carrying out this project.
Among the team members are Dr. Víctor Javier Lara Díaz, Dr. Karina Corona Cervantes, Dr. Ulises Andrés Salas Villalobos and Dr. July Stephany Gámez Valdez.
With the presentation of this award and the recognition of excellence in scientific research, the Biocodex Microbiota Foundation continues its mission to advance the knowledge and understanding of the intestinal microbiota, paving the way for future advances in the diagnosis and treatment of related diseases. with the digestive system in Mexico
This achievement demonstrates the continued commitment of the scientific and health community in Mexico to advance knowledge and innovation in an area as fundamental as the intestinal microbiota, whose importance extends to improving the quality of life of people throughout the world.
