Behind a facade between party walls, like so many others in the El Cabañal neighborhood of Valencia, hides a house with a recent and careful reform carried out by the Iterare Arquitectos studio.
The house, which leads by name mirasol, is recovered as a unique work within this maritime district of the city of Valencia. Its initial construction is humble character, simple and anonymous, as befits the old fishermen’s houses that once shaped the streets of the neighborhood but, behind its walls, there are some surprising elements that give character and special qualities to this house that now It is a refuge that calls for calm.
Despite the humble construction, this reform has been based on the review of some of its most characteristic elements: as in the case of the façade, delicately divided from the historic residential building to which it belongs; or the skylight body, that in the manner of a mirasolrises with autonomy and significance over the ancient roofs of the neighborhood.
That skylight it is in fact, the most significant element of the house. It operates as a true void of light (and shadow) capable of retaining between its surfaces the different nuances that the light of the Mediterranean offers us during the day. Thus the house will vary its atmosphere, and therefore its living, as the sky changes its appearance. From the imposing shadows of the morning cut on the walls of the mirasol, to the delicate tones of the sunset, already more subtle and friendly.
Another element of the house is your patio located in the back. This small patio ensures a constant and gentle breeze over each of the rooms in the house -whether they are on the ground floor or first floor-, thanks to the efficiency with which the mirasol again, now also converted into a large ventilation shaftis capable of directing the different upward and downward flows that wander through the spaces of the house.
In this house the calm atmosphere is achieved thanks to the unity of colors and materials throughout the house, including bathroom and kitchen. All the spaces share a beige stone flooring and the immaculate white of the walls. On this neutral and natural base, the natural wood of the interior doors and cabinets that reach the ceiling stand out, an atmosphere that also generates a contrast with the decoration of the façade.
