An enzyme found in a bacterium, a relative of the one that causes tuberculosis, is capable of converting hydrogen in the air into electricityand a study published in the journal Nature showed the discovery of the enzyme responsible for the process.
The bacterium, called Mycobacterium Smegmatis, is found in soil around the world and is able to survive in nutrient-poor environments thanks to the Huc enzyme, which allows it to use hydrogen in the air to generate the energy it needs to survive. . The discovery could be used to power portable electrical devices, such as biometric sensors, digital watches and calculators, from the air.

Rhys Ginter, lead author of the study, explained in an interview with the Livescience portal that while it provides more concentrated amounts of hydrogen, it could make the enzyme generate even greater electrical currents.
The ease of multiplication of the bacterium and the ability to produce current, even with very low amounts of hydrogen, can make Huc an excellent source of energy in organic batteries and could supply power-hungry equipment such as Bitcoin mining equipment and even cars.
Pablo Lobo, founder of Sthorn, argues that new forms of renewable and more efficient energy are the focus of science and Bitcoin minerssuch as Arthur Mining, a partner of Sthorn that uses Flare Gas and that will start operations in Brazil.
“We are always looking for ways to make Bitcoin mining more sustainable and profitable, and using renewable energy sources is one solution. The discovery of the Huc enzyme could be great news for clean energy production in the futureWolf said.
Wolf also points out that Bitcoin miners have fostered the discovery and production of energy from new sources that can generate infinite power with virtually zero environmental impact. The expert cites advanced research for the use of special solar energy, through radio waves.
“In a maximum of 20 years our energy sources will be completely renewed and it will be practically impossible to imagine that we damage the planet so much to obtain finite and dirty energy. Arthur Mining pioneered the use of Flare Gas, which was considered waste from oil extraction and we will continue to innovate, attentive to advances in science“, he stressed.
The discovery of the Huc enzyme could represent a major change in the way we think about energy, offering a renewable, clean and low-cost source.. The ease of multiplication of the bacteria and its ability to survive in adverse conditions make Huc an excellent option to power portable electrical devices, organic batteries and, why not, even cars in the future.
